SLE Documentary: Journey to the heart of the Beninese poultry sector 

Benin is one of the biggest African importers of frozen chicken meat from the EU and other Western countries. The meat is sold at prices that are not competitive for local poultry breeders. In this short documentary, diverse actors of the Beninese poultry sector have the word and some results of the SLE research in 2020 are resumed.

In 2020, the SLE in cooperation with the GIZ has conducted a research project to examine the Beninese poultry market and consumer preferences, production systems and the political framework in which the Beninese poultry sector evolves and developed options for action to strengthen it. Le Bénin est l’un des plus grands importateurs africains de viande de poulet congelée en provenance de l’UE et d’autres pays occidentaux. La viande est vendue à des prix qui ne sont pas compétitifs pour les aviculteurs locaux.

En 2020, le SLE en coopération avec la GIZ a mené un projet de recherche pour examiner le marché avicole béninois et les préférences de consommation, les systèmes de production et le cadre politique dans lequel le secteur avicole béninois évolue et a développé des options d’action pour le renforcer. Dans ce court documentaire, divers acteurs de la filière avicole béninoise ont la parole et quelques résultats de la recherche sont résumés.
