International DAAD Alumni Seminar
“Tropical diversity, ecology and land use – harmonizing human needs and nature”
17-22 February 2016, Berlin

The seminar in Berlin is scheduled in the run-up to the European Conference of Tropical Ecology (23-26 February 2016, Göttingen). After completion of the seminar in Berlin the participants will travel to Göttingen, where they are going to participate in the international conference.

SLE TRAINING targets international experts active in their own countries in development cooperation, in public administrative bodies and institutions, in the academic field, in NGOs or in the private business sector.

Participants should hold a university degree (M.A. or M.Sc., B.A. or B.Sc.) and have relevant professional/practical experience. A good command of English is a prerequisite. If you want to apply you are kindly requested to fill out our online application form, where you

  • provide information on your motivation: You should emphasize how you will personally and professionally benefit from the participation in the alumni seminar and the international conference and what you are expecting to learn. You should highlight how your professional background as well as your present work and duties are connected to the topics of the seminar.
  • Besides, you should illustrate how and in which institutional context you are planning to act as a multiplier of the gained knowledge and identify possible stakeholders for future collaboration.
  • Upload a short CV
  • Provide a poster and/or abstract/ expert-text, written by yourself, in order to help us get an overview on your expertise/academic activities (max. 1 page)

You may register as:

1. Self-payer

You or your organization will pay for all occurring costs like travel, accommodation, course fee, visa, travel health insurance, conference fees etc.

2. Applicant eligible for co-funding award

You are eligible for a co-funding award if you are:

  • from a country listed on the DAC-list of “developing” countries

  • alumnus/alumna of a German university. That means you have studied and/or carried out research for at least three months at a German university

The co-funding award covers part of your travel costs (international return ticket from your home country to and from Berlin, economy class) and a daily allowance. Transport costs within the home country, visa costs and travel health insurance have to be covered by the participants. The seminar is organized and hosted by SLE TRAINING, Centre for Rural Development (SLE), Humboldt-University of Berlin. The seminar is offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the framework of the program Alumni Special Projects. The costs will mainly be covered by funds from the DAAD provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
